Drivers must be 18 years of age or older at the time the Vehicle is collected.

Rent My Tuk Tuk reserves the right to request proof of age before releasing any Vehicle.

5.3 Required Documents

Before vehicle handover, every Authorised Driver must present original physical copies of the following documents:

  • Valid Passport
  • Valid Home Country Driving Licence
  • Valid International Driving Permit (IDP)
  • Sri Lankan Driving Recognition Permit (where applicable)

Photographs, photocopies, screenshots, or expired documents are not accepted unless otherwise permitted by applicable law.

Failure to provide the required documentation may result in refusal of vehicle handover without entitlement to compensation.

5.4 International Driving Permit (IDP)

Foreign visitors intending to drive in Sri Lanka must possess a valid International Driving Permit issued by an authorised authority in their home country.

The Customer is responsible for ensuring that the IDP remains valid throughout the Rental Period.

5.5 Sri Lankan Driving Recognition Permit

Foreign driving licences and International Driving Permits alone do not authorise the operation of a tuk tuk in Sri Lanka.

Customers must also obtain a Sri Lankan Driving Recognition Permit issued through the Automobile Association Ceylon (AAC).

Rent My Tuk Tuk may assist customers with the permit application process as an additional service.

The Customer acknowledges that:

  • Government processing times are outside our control.
  • Permit fees are separate from the rental price unless otherwise agreed.
  • Incorrect or incomplete documents may delay permit issuance.
  • Government-issued permit fees are generally non-refundable once processing has commenced.

The legal responsibility for holding a valid permit always remains with the Customer.

Additional drivers may be authorised only if they:

  • satisfy all licensing requirements;
  • provide all required documents;
  • complete the handover briefing; and
  • receive written approval from Rent My Tuk Tuk.

The primary renter remains responsible for all actions of every Authorised Driver.

  • permits cannot be verified;
  • the Customer appears impaired;

  • required security deposits have not been paid.

Such refusal shall not constitute a breach of contract by Rent My Tuk Tuk.
